Lil Lola Rose
Jewelry
My
name is Talia Zakiewicz - Giannelli. I make art and jewelry from
beads, silverware and metals. I am a self- taught artist living in New
Hampshire. I grew up fast and found myself without a home. I was lucky
to have many friends take me in and lend me a couch or let me shower
for many years until I could find my own place to stay. It was scary to
be homeless and I had never thought it would ever happen to me. My
creative spirit has always gotten my through. I have been known to make
something out of nothing every opportunity I get.
I
made dolls out of paper towel rolls and tape, have done many sketches
on napkins, and have constantly (well, maybe not constantly...) kept a
journal of all my experiences.
I
had finally found a career when I decided to join the carpenters union
as a carpenters apprentice. As an apprentice I worked for a company who
did historical preservation and I was put in charge of restoring
hardware (a skill that has proven very helpful to my artwork now). I
did this work for a few years and met my husband. He
has given me the opportunity to stay home with our children and create
my art. I am lucky to be where I am and wish I had known of resources
to get back on my feet sooner. The National Alliance to End
Homelessness is a cause close to my heart. They help so many folks who
find themselves on the street for many reasons, domestic violence,
veterans, families who have lost their jobs, and young people trying to
find their way just like me. A 15% of all my work sold will go to this
organization.
